Warmer is not always better. Ask which coating will be used and check its application and drying requirements before choosing a painting day. Surface temperature, moisture and the forecast matter as well as the temperature outside.
• MY WALLS ARE SMOOTH, I DON’T NEED PRIMER?
A smooth wall does not tell you whether it needs primer. Ask the painter to assess bare or repaired areas, stains and the existing finish, then explain the primer included in the coating system.
• THE HIGHER THE GLOSS, THE EASIER THE SURFACE IS TO CLEAN?
Okay. So, this one is true, but not as much as it used to be. Development in water-based paints has led to the development of washable matte finishes.
• DARK COLORS MAKE A ROOM LOOK SMALL?
A dark color can feel different from one room to another. Try samples on the actual walls and view them in daylight and under your usual lighting before committing to the room.
• I’M SELLING MY HOME, I DON’T NEED TO PAINT IT?
Actually, if you are looking to sell your home, a new coat of paint can do wonders as most people would like to have something move-in ready.
• I DON’T NEED TO PRESSURE WASH BEFORE PAINTING BECAUSE MY HOUSE ISN’T REALLY DIRTY?
Ask how each surface will be cleaned before painting. The cleaning method should suit the material and its condition; pressure washing is not the right approach for every surface. Agree on cleaning, preparation and drying time in the written scope.
