DECK STAINING TIPS

Let’s face it, decks are great additions to any home, but they require general maintenance to really shine. So with Spring just around the corner, it’s probably time for a little TLC, but how much TLC you need depends on a few things.

There are two primary ways to refresh a deck:

1. Pressure Washing

Pressure washing is the quickest and cheapest route, but what you gain in time today sacrifices the longevity of your results. Pressure washing can also be harsh on your deck if you use the wrong nozzle or get too close to the wood.

2. Re-Staining or Restoring

Many homeowners opt for the option of cleaning, sanding, and re-staining. This method is most preferred by professionals and will give your deck its longest life. Your time investment today will benefit you for years to come.

So which method is best for you? Well…it depends. Pressure washing may be enough if your deck is in good condition or you plan on moving any time soon, while the second method is better suited for decks in need of a little more attention or if you prefer to prolong the life of your deck.
